September 27, 2016 – Proverb of the Day
today’s my birthday. a professor of mine once said, “if you quit learning, you might as well be dead.” i’ve reached the place for the first time in my life that i don’t really want to go back to school, but it doesn’t mean i don’t want to learn more. i just don’t want to pay for it. there’s so much to learn that is far more valuable to me than learning that earns a diploma or degree. i just want to learn more about my Lord Jesus Christ so that I can serve Him better in this coming year and for the remaining fruitful years of my life. i want to learn Scripture, because it is through God’s Word, that i will know Jesus better.
a few months ago, i was challenged to memorize the chapter from the book of Psalms that corresponds with my age. i got started in Psalm 55, but didn’t finish. beginning today, i want to memorize Psalm 56. it’s only 13 verses. that’s one per month if i count september this year and september of 2017.
how about a challenge? would you like to join me in memorizing the Psalm corresponding to the year of your birth? I think as long as you are not 119 years old this year, you can probably do it! i would love to hear from you when you have your chapter memorized. call me. quote it for me. tell me what God taught you from His Word. i will feature you on my website and facebook page on your birthday.
keep on learning. never think you know it all and can’t learn any more. be humble. listen to wise, godly counsel. seek after wisdom and knowledge.
may this be your goal: “attaining to all the wealth that comes from the full assurance of understanding, resulting in a true knowledge of God’s mystery, that is, Christ Himself, in whom are hidden all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge.” (Colossians 2:1-3)
